Franz Ferdinand was an Austrian Archduke and Prince of Este, who was assassinated by Gavrilo Princip in Sarajevo, triggering the start of World War I.
He was born on December 18, 1863, in Graz, as the eldest son of Archduke Karl Ludwig, the younger brother of Emperor Franz Joseph.
Early Life
As a child, Franz Ferdinand was enrolled in the army. After serving for several years, he traveled extensively.
