Demetrios G. Papademetriou was a member of the MPPGA Teaching Faculty and a Distinguished Transatlantic Fellow and President Emeritus of the Migration Policy Institute (MPI), a Washington-based think tank which he co-founded in 2001 and led as its President from 2002 to 2014.

He was also the founder (2011) of MPI Europe, an independent Brussels-based non-profit sister institute in Brussels that aims to promote a better understanding of migration trends and effects within Europe; he served as President of MPI Europe until 2018 when he continued to serve on its Board of Trustees.
