Life got in the way of writing about this series which I read and enjoyed in June.
While funny and delightful, the four book series about life on a small farm on the North York moors did not obsess me as emotionally as did the memoirs of Jeannine McMullen or Derek Tangye or Evelyn Atkins, which I think is because Joyce did not delve as deeply into her own emotions and vulnerabilities.
I did enjoy her books immensely. She and her husband, Gordon, bought a farm and, with her mother, along with their young children, started country life with a flock of sheep which she let go of after the first book; sheep were much more challenging than cows, to my surprise.
