Alfredrick "Al" Alphonzo Joyner is a former track and field athlete who won the gold medal in triple jump at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.
He was born on January 19, 1960, in East St. Louis, Illinois, United States.
Early Life and Education
Al Joyner showed great promise in track and field during his time at Lincoln High School in East St.
Louis, Illinois. He continued his athletic career at the University of Arkansas, where he achieved numerous victories. He won three local NCAA championships, three away NCAA championships, four Southland Conference championships, and placed eighth in the World Championships in Helsinki, Finland, in the triple jump event.
