The first Governor of Kaduna State was Air Vice-Marshal Muktar Muhammed, who served as governor from 1977 until July 1978.

Muktar Muhammed was born on November 11, 1944, in Kano, Nigeria.

He had a successful career in the Nigerian Air Force and reached the rank of Air Vice-Marshal.

Muktar Muhammed became governor during a period of military rule in Nigeria, under the leadership of General Olusegun Obasanjo.

He took over from the previous governor, Usman Jibrin.
